Porsche 962C CK6/2-07

The Porsche 962 was introduced at the end of 1984 to replace the 956 as Porsches mainstay Group C sportscar after regulation changes obsoleted the 956. In total, Porsche would produce 91 units of 962s between the years 1984 and 1991, 16 of which would be claimed by the factory team, while 75 went up for sale on the private market. Most cars would be fitted with various Porsche KKK turbocharged flat-sixes as their engine but that is where the similarities started to end. Due to the sheer number of 962s produced and spare parts available, most teams would start modifying their 962s far beyond most racecars, especially the bodywork. The car and its various iterations would have a successful decade-long career, winning Le Mans twice as well as other series. After two fatal crashes in 1985 and 1986, Kremer Racing.
decided to hire John Thompson and TC prototypes to design a new and much stronger monocoque for the 962C. However, the first two chassis of this collaboration and their drivers were lost in another fatal accident. Consequently, Kremer perfected the new setup with the CK6 series, which consisted of a mix between Porsche sourced parts and Kremer developed parts. This innovative procedure allowed the 962C CK6 to remain competitive long after the original 962C was deemed out-of-date for Le Mans.

This CK6/07-02 chassis was likely one of the first four chassis built by Kremer to be put to use. It participated in five events between 1990-1991. It placed 24 in the 1990 Le Mans and 7 in the Worlds Sports Prototype Championship Mexico. Today the chassis is labelled with its original number 10 and is configured with the Kremer downforce package, distinguished by the massive – custom built rear wing.
