The Ferrari 488 GT3 is a purpose-built customer racing car derived from the road-going Ferrari 488 GTB, which replaced the naturally aspirated 458 Italia in 2015.
It introduced Ferrari’s 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 for the F154 engine family. This shift represented a major change in Ferrari’s philosophy, moving toward smaller-displacement, forced-induction engines that delivered higher torque, better efficiency, and improved drivability.
Building on this platform, Ferrari developed the 488 GT3 for FIA GT3 regulations, debuting in 2016.
It retained the aluminum spaceframe chassis of the road car but was heavily reinforced and paired with carbon-fiber aerodynamic bodywork, racing suspension, and endurance-focused systems.
The engine was detuned and optimized for reliability and Balance of Performance rules, typically producing around 550–600 hp.
